I am looking to develop a career reflective of my academic qualifications and research experience to date. My research interests are wide and include strategic analysis, maritime security (particularly piracy) and the geopolitics of South Asia, South America and the former Soviet Union. As Research Associate for the UKDF I am currently engaged in analysis of the social, economic and cultural drivers of the foreign and security policies of the former Soviet space and Latin America.

As a researcher for a small North East defence consultancy I am now developing an extensive knowledge of challenges facing the global defence industry. This has allowed me to consider how such issues as offsetting, technology transfer and protectionism impact upon the business of defence. I have undertaken specific research into how these issues have impacted upon the defence industries of South and East Asia as well as Romania and Eastern Europe.

 I was recently an International Policy Analyst for the Transnational Crisis Project. The Project is a relatively new think-tank seeking to bring fresher perspectives to global security issues. This includes a re-emphasising that the causes of security concerns emanate as much from social networks as they do from global events. Currently the Project's focus is upon the Afghan-Pakistani border. I am currently engaged in research focussed upon UK policing initiatives within Pakistan. This includes exchanges regarding training, forensics, crime-scene management, IEDS, terrorist/criminal finances interdiction.
