Safelane Consultants (trading as MMC International) is a company that specialises in effectively profiling & managing the risks presented by landmines & unexploded ordnance (collectively known as the Explosive Remnants of War, or ERW) within post conflict environments. This is achieved through the application of extensive relevant experience and knowledge of current industry best practice, & is underpinned by close liaison with clients so as to develop a very clear understanding of their operational requirements and where appropriate, key health & safety protocols. Safelane can support your company with the following services:
• ERW Risk Assessments – conducted either remotely through desktop studies or in country by means of a Rapid Dangerous Area Assessment (RDAA). These can provide a client with accurate & updated information that can then be used to support further ERW risk management planning.
• ERW Risk Management Programmes – the design, implementation & subsequent development of fully integrated or stand alone ERW Risk Management Programmes (ERMPs) that match industry standards and best practice, and a company’s own protocols. Each ERMP is tailored to the client’s precise needs and is premised upon risk avoidance rather than risk removal. This methodology can result in substantial savings in both cost and time & without compromising safety to project personnel or assets.
• ERW Project Evaluation - Safelane Consultants is able (as an impartial honest broker) to conduct a full evaluation of an existing ERW risk management programme with the view to making key recommendations that aim to improve its safety, relevance and efficiency. Such reviews and assessments can also be conducted for third parties who, although not directly contracting the ERW service provider, are reliant upon the results of their work.
• ERW Document Development and Review - From the drafting of corporate ERW policies for multinational clients, through to reviewing industry ERW standards & the creation of site and activity specific field SOPs, we are able to ensure that documentation is relevant to a company’s health & safety policies, the level of ERW threat, the operational requirement and relevant international and host nation standards.
• ERW Training – The design and implementation of ERW training packages that best suit the needs of the client on a project by project basis. From detailed ERW safety induction packages to more basic ERW training presentations, this important support function will include an explanation of the types & effects of ERW, ERW presence indicators, ERW safety behaviour & rules, plus site specific ERW information. ERW training can also include practical guidance in managing an ERW incident, if required. Safelane is also able to offer a wide range of services in relation to the design, development and fielding of vehicle mounted ERW (including IED) detection systems, mechanically-based clearance technologies, HMA-related training, support to technical accreditation, & operates in accordance with IMAS guidelines. Safelane’s clients include BHP Billiton, Vale, Petra Diamonds, Geokinetics & the COWI Group.
